Seyed E Hasnain Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad
Prof. Hasnain is currently the Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad. He joined the university as Vice Chancellor in Dec. 2005. He holds a PhD degree from JNU [1980]. He also received post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University of Alberta, Canada. His research interests include understanding the mechanism of baculovirus very, very late gene transcription and apoptosis and more recently the functional biology, molecular epidemiology and evolutionary genetics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Dr. Hasnain has authored more than 175 original research papers and several book chapters. He has about a dozen patents filed in India and abroad. Dr Hasnain is one of the founder members and Patron of ISOGEM, a scientific society headquartered at Sassari in Italy. He has been nominated by the Prime minister of India for the membership of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, the highest decision and policy making body for Science and Technology for the country.
A former member of the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the DST, he is the recipient of several national and international awards which include Dr Nityanand Endowment Lecture for Biomedical Research, Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Award, Goyal Award, G D Birla Award, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Golden Jubilee Biotechnology Fellowship Award, Ranbaxy Research Award and several others.
